BARREL ONE 03
This was the third venue designed for Barrel One Coffee Roasters, located within the newly developed Lane Cove ‘Canopy’ district. The café had a number of pre-existing constraints that added complexity to development of the spatial organisation. The existing services, entry door & windows, bathroom location and ceiling heights had to be maintained, whilst allowing for the café’s specialised equipment and requirements. This had to be done whilst maximising the usable space for café operations, allowing for take-away ordering & pickup, as well as providing adequate dine-in seating. The café’s materiality borrows elements from previous Barrel One venues, elevated slightly to better harmonise with the surrounding district. The venue features dark tones and mitred stainless steel benching, contrasted with the Barrel One Brand Red, bathing the floors and seating. Due to the reduced space and low ceilings, finishes were creatively used to demarcate between staff areas and public areas, creating clearly defined zones without obtrusive physical boundaries.
